Project Overview
Mega Bangna is one of Bangkok’s prominent shopping destinations, spanning two expansive floors with large open spaces and frequent foot traffic. As a high-occupancy commercial site, the mall incurs significant energy expenses—particularly from HVAC systems that account for nearly 60% of its total energy consumption, including retail and common areas.
To address energy inefficiencies and improve indoor comfort, Mega Bangna partnered with Resync for a digital transformation of its HVAC and indoor air quality (IAQ) systems.
Key Challenges
While the mall had previously implemented smart features such as automatic doors and indoor sensors, it continued to face operational hurdles:
- >Inaccurate IAQ and temperature sensors affecting comfort and control.
- >Ineffective dynamic set point management, requiring manual intervention by facility staff in certain zones.
- >Chiller plant sensor feedback issues that made live data unreliable for optimization.
A growing interest in LEED certification, necessitating measurable improvements in sustainability and indoor environmental quality.
Objectives
Mega Bangna’s team aimed to:
- >Enhance thermal comfort across large, double-volume spaces.
- >Enable accurate and reliable indoor air quality monitoring.
- >Optimize HVAC operations for energy savings and automated control.
Align energy performance improvements with sustainability certifications like LEED.
Resync’s Approach
Resync deployed a digital-first strategy tailored to Mega Bangna’s unique building structure and challenges:
- >Environmental Sensor Upgrade
Resync introduced its proprietary sensors to deliver more accurate indoor temperature and air quality readings, enabling better control over comfort and energy use. - >HVAC Optimization
Leveraging real-time environmental data—including indoor/outdoor temperature, sunlight, and rainfall—Resync began fine-tuning HVAC set points dynamically, aiming for seamless automation and reduced manual oversight. - >Data-Driven Insights
Due to challenges with the chiller plant’s feedback sensors, historical image-based data from the past six months was integrated to train and calibrate Resync’s machine learning models.
Sustainability Integration
As Mega Bangna works toward LEED certification, Resync’s solution lays the foundation for energy tracking, optimization, and sustainability reporting.
What’s Next
This project is currently ongoing, with continuous data collection and system refinement in progress. Early indicators show improved visibility into air quality and thermal comfort metrics. A follow-up case study will share quantifiable energy savings and operational improvements as the implementation matures.
